Ha escrito muchos libros, la mayoría de ellos centrados en el periodo que va desde el inicio de la II República hasta el final del franquismo. Tiene un profundo conocimiento de la historia contemporánea europea, lo que le permite hacer muy interesantes comparaciones. En sus libros ha evolucionado desde una posición inicial en la que veía a la Guerra Civil como una confrontación entre buenos (el bando republicano) y malos (el bando nacional) a una visión más crítica en la que distingue un enfrentamiento entre revolucionarios y contrarrevolucionarios.En este libro sobre la Guerra Civil no sigue una exposición cronológica de los hechos, sino que cada capítulo analiza un aspecto particular (la guerra en el mar, los conflictos internos, el apoyo exterior, la guerra económica, etc.). Es un libro muy interesante, como todos los de este autor, y es de lectura amena. También hay que decir que, en mi opinión, tiene libros mejores.

Una mirada entorno a la guerra civil española. No soy experto en la materia pero me ha parecido un libro riguroso y equilibrado. Ayuda a conocer mejor la historia y a comprender las diferentes posiciones.
